The Beginner Guide To Getting Started With MidJourney (A.I. Art)

I’ve been playing with MidJourney, which allows you to direct artificial intelligence to create art based on text alone.

People have been asking how to get started using it, and I hope this helps!
You can learn and see more on my Instagram at https://instagram.com/futurist.ai

I will be sharing tips and tricks there in my “Story Highlights” at the top of the page, and in my posts and stories.

It’s been a hot topic with polarizing opinions, feel free to write your thoughts about the future of A.I. in our industry.

I have been using it mostly for fun: Generating concepts as a moldboard tool and just seeing if I can get the visions in my head out in visual form as I’m not great at drawing. It’s been inspiring, and a fun exercise in communication.

  1. I think its absolutely AMAZING but yes it will hit Artist in a massive way. Similar to how Photography was changed with photoshop. The only media that cant be created with AI as easily is video.

  2. i just started playing with MidJouney,
it is amazing! i am recreating some of my dreams with it and touch it up with photoshop after
I started a dream journal and this is just phenomenal

  3. I'm a tshirt designer, and idealy need 4500×5400 300dpi as an industry standard, could you please recommend upscale programs or show how to upscale these images, I'd rather know how to do so before subscribing to this Ai.

  4. Hi prateek , which of the following pronunciation of your name do you prefer?
    1. Pru-tik
    2. Pru-teek
    3. प्रतीक (you can use google translate, but do listen the pronunciation in hindi)

I'm genuinely curious, do let me know.
Why i ask this?- i want to know how growing up in a different country affects one's preference for pronounciation of native words.

  5. Have been using the app Dream which appears easier. But the results seen here are on a higher different level. Will wait for the processing to be easier to use. I hoping to use my own photo with Ai. Any advice.

  6. These images are litterally st0len from all over the internet, these are not created by AI, they are "composed" by AI, like you take a bunch of pozzle pieces and make a figure shape out of it. These are all parts of images originally created by artists. this is th3ft.

  7. Please tell me, sir, if i create some images – can I transform them to NFT and sell them? Are the images belong to me? I mean copyright. Also, is there is a way when I can hid from anybody else what I have created?

  8. I'm new to Discord and I've already fallen at the first hurdle 🤣It's saying "You do not have permission to send messages in this channel" not sure how to fix that.

  9. Hey! Great video. For some reason the text typing area is inaccessible to me. there's a 🚫sign on it. How do I fix this? Please forgive my ignorance as I am very new to dicord and all this.

  10. Thank you so much for this video! I had NO idea how to make AI art and was so frustrated with the apps on Android. I listened to your video in the car and then watched it when I got home and spent the following 5 hours making ai artwork. They have a new subscriber because of your video, I don't think I ever would have found this had it not been for you. Thank you thank you thank you 👏😁❤

  11. MidJourney is good for generate ideas and get inspired for making your own illustration out of scratch and use digital painting techniques to do your own original art but making an illustration only with an algorithm, it's a little bit strange to me because I like to be original and use my own imagination. I like to brainstorm my own images in my mind.

  12. I tried everything but there is no prompt text showing after /imagine.. tried to solve this but couldn't find any solution.. and also midjournjy mods are useless, they just talk about random things rather then helping anyone!

  13. This may be great for any endeavor where you don't plan on having Intellectual property (IP) rights. Control sale, marketing, distribution, royalties etc. There is no business model for using this service and making money that Midjourney doesn't claim the same right to itself. I wouldn't trade off actual programs , expensive as they may be, for something who's end result you have no control over.

  14. Seeing all those AIs creating super cool images/illustrations makes me kinda sad to be honest. As a very mediocre artist I don't really see the point to improve my technique at this point since AIs does everything better than I would. I wonder if in the future people will still need artists to make art, or they will completely be replaced by AIs that generates images.

  15. HI I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU. IF ANY ARTIST IS USING A.I SERVICE like STABLE DIFFUSION, DALL:E TO CREATE ANY ARTWORK. AND SELL IT FOR A PROFIT ,CAN THESE A.I COMPANIES ASK FOR ANY FEES? ARE THERE ANY FREE AI WEBSITES, OR ANDROID APP THAT ALLOW , AI FOR FREE COMMERCIAL USAGE

  16. for those of you that dont know (LIKE ME!) because your new to all of this and were currently logged out of discord when it tried to launch from the website…..once you log into your discord or after creating one make sure you scroll down to the second from the bottom button or icon that says "Explore Servers" and type in "A.I Midjourney" to pull up the discord conversations which is mainly what he is talking about. Otherwise you'll spend forever trying to figure out this whole video…….

  17. thx for the video is it also possible to type in lets say figures which alrdy exists like lets say characters from comics but u can make them look diffrent and even say something in the picture ? with a text ?

  18. I've gotten mixed results with Midjourney. I think this AI learns from experience, so if you want to get the result you want, you either need to choose a prompt similar to everybody else's prompts, or you need to select a prompt that is abstract enough so that you can be happy with it even if it isn't exactly what you want.

I'll give some examples of what I have done.

Half the pictures people do on here are of pretty women, so if you prompt a picture of a pretty woman, you'll get a very high quality picture of a pretty woman. It seems in general to be pretty good at faces.

I got abstract pictures I was happy with from these prompts:

"The Burning Bush says, 'I am that I am…'" (it was a long prompt and I didn't write it all)
"The AI which designs itself approaches God faster and faster for all time, but never arrives"
"Gay pride colored fire and brimstone falls on Gomorrah."

Results that were different than I expected, but I kept them because they still looked good:
"One Punch Man and Tom Bombandil having a good time in Tom's enchanted Forest." The two guys it generated didn't look like OPM or Tom Bombadiil, but the forest was pretty and it really did look like they were having a good time, so I kept it.

I tried to get it to generate for me a beautiful green forest with elves singing a capella in it, but it could only either generate a forest like I described, or some elves (of the santa claus variety rather than the LOTR variety like I had wanted). But the scenery was still pretty, so I kept some of the forest pictures.

Prompts that did not yield good results:
"A dragon greets you with the temperament of a Golden Retriever" In general it seems to be bad at dragons. Maybe dragons don't have consistent-enough body plans for the AI to easily understand what is expected. It showed me a happy golden-retriever head on a golden snake body. The closest thing I was able to get to a dragon was, "giant winged snake flying over the country-side breathing fire." It got the snake prompt right, except that it left out the wings.
"Anatomically correct human hand" It only generated monstrosities. Maybe human hands aren't as popular as human faces, so it didn't train much on this, but they still have to look exactly right or else they are ugly.

  19. To all those calling this "AI art":
This isn't artwork. There's no such thing as artwork without artworking, you can't claim visual work to be your own without doing the visual work that creates it. A painter can explain their brush strokes, this is just theft. It's just a glorified automatic photobashing program. No one likes to see this visual noise, it's like the photobash equivalent of paint splashed violently on a canvas, absolutely devoid of semiosis and cohesion, to which is completely detached from the efforts of the user so yeah don't claim it as yours. The separation of artwork and artworker means you have no skilllful merit to go upon. Commissioning an artist or a AI with a prompt doesn't make you own the work. Labourers should have the personal property rights, screw capitalists and their attempt to own others' efforts as their private property. No one cares about how skilllful your image appears if you are not skilllful yourself, if anyone can do it it's of mundane value. And by the way, before you get your "prompting is art" hearsay defence out which does nothing to rebuke what I just said but rather support it, you know, pre-schoolers do better prompts than you. The structure of the AI's feature descriptors are all tucked up in the bland repetitive prompt books because it's entirely interpolative of the feature set maps the AI steals from people's artworks. You have literally no control of the details in an AI made image, especially the handicraft, you can't skilllfully craft secret messages into it that belong to scene. And you certainly cannot draw 1:1 with the detailed visual imagery of your own mental imagination through the inadequate medium of text. Happy useless brute forcing, you artless uncultured fascists, too bad you'll never be good enough to experience how nice and relaxing it is to actually practice art when you're decently good enough to make anything you want to the exact detail 🙂

  20. Than You fot sharing this.
I don't know about you, the people are thinking by now on but …… i think this kind of piece of program, software; it's very dangerous for the true real Artistians around the globe.

I'am a illustrator Painter Artist. My program for the job it's Photoshop. It's a great program for drawing / painting. And i can use it pretty well if i want to create with my own hands and another kind of stuff. But, with this MidJourney piece of software; you don't need to do nothing, nothing to complicate or even for to create something by yourself. Because this program it's making you the whole work upon at you and for everybody.

It's very interesting. But, i can see a NO MORE jobs for a Real professional artists and creators people anymore. Everything it's replaced. We are a kind of expendable however ……

Not for today of course. But what about the future, and the rising from a lot of a better kind of programs such like this, with a better layouts and tools for the automatic creations.
