Skip to 06:00 for the Topaz Labs demo. #Midjourney is great for creating images, but they’re not big enough to print, by using a second machine learning system, Topaz Labs’ Gigapixel AI we can smartly scale them up, while the AI fills in the gaps.

  1. Super T-shirt! And I've been enjoying this little method for a few months since I got into DDv5.2, The prints look great.

One thing I have been experimenting with lately, and at work, is using Topaz to create 3D animations at a slower framerate. I wonder how that could apply to a DD or DALLE-2 animation…

  2. Hey Dan,
first of all: Thank you so much for this awesome video, I really use Topaz a lot on so many things and it really blows my mind what details it can find in some lower resolution material!

A totally offtopic question: What printer do you use for your digital prints πŸ˜€ ? I really liked the blacks and the detail on your prints!

  3. What a great and educative video!
For a non-native English speaker (like me) you are so easy to understand.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

Deciding to WATCH your video was MORE a VISION THING 😁
    Your shirt caught me

  4. Topaz and other AI Upscalers are doing a LOT of magic, but for those who are "stuck" with Photoshop or Affinity I got also a little workaround:

    1. Set a new Project with the desired format, insert the image and scale it up according to the document borders
    2. Convert the image to a "Smart Object", apply a "Camera Raw Filter" and set the "Structure" Parameter to something between 30% – 60%
    3. Duplicate the Processed Layer and set the upper Layer to "Overlay", apply a "High Pass Filter" and set it to something between 3 and 6

A little Reminder: This will NOT replace any kind of AI Upscale Magic, and it will work better for BW and Monochromatic images. Sometimes it will be enough, many times it needs further tweaking. Another Option is to do a final retouch by adding the 2 Layers to another Smart Object and repeating steps 2 and 3, sometimes adding an "Unsharp Mask" will also reveal more detail.

  5. Whoa, I just found out about Gigapixel earlier this week and was instantly sold after seeing it upscale a piece of digital artwork I had bought. I’ve used it on a few midjourney outputs already and also highly recommend it for anyone that deals with DPI.

  6. Hey Dan, just came across your videos – amazing work mate; you are really engaging and very good at explaining and showcasing πŸ™‚ Thanks for doing this, much appreciated! I wanted to ask, do you have some experience or tips on using MJ/other AI tools to generate art and printed it on wearables (t-shirts, tote-bags), etc.? Any advice or references would be superb!

  7. 300dpi over a 1m is great!
I'm so intrigued by how the art industry will gradually shift towards becoming better at utilizing the AIs the create something intended than actually drawing oneself. Many complain about losing jobs, but I think it'll rather be a new evolution of how artists work in the future. Essentially an explosion of expressions and efficiency.

  8. This video is amazing. You go right to the point and you explain everything very well and thoroughly. The quality of your content all around is great. This deserves more views!

  9. I find the low-resolution Topaz model better for upscaling Midjourney, although I'm still using version 5.8 because it works better for what I do. The Art & CG model tends to keep more variation in almost flat areas but it makes edges wider (eg. blue skies keep more detail in the blue, but the edge of a tree and the leaves lose fine detail). Obviously different models work better for different images… 4x scaling seems to be the sweet spot for me, which gives 8.2k x 4.6k ~= 38MP images

  10. good evening from Costa Rica! is there a chance to use a big 72dpi image generated with MJ for silkscreening? could it be possible to prepare the image using the halftone technique? the image I have has this measurements in pixels, w: 1664 x h: 2432 and I really want it to use it for silkscreening… any ideas? thanks in advanced! πŸ€”

  11. Completely agree with what you said about printing your images. When I do a big print for a project or photograph, it lets me look at it as if it wasn't my own in a way. I find it very useful.

  12. I tried the Gigapixel demo (which leaves a watermark all over everything so you aren't fully able to evaluate it). For my use though, which is mainly preparing old historical photos for publication, I would have to say no, that it doesn't seem very good. It takes too many freedoms and simply leaves what it doesn't understand alone so that some parts of the image no longer blends naturally with the rest. The result had a phony look. But for a Midjourney image which is fantasy to begin with I'm sure it would work a lot better, yes.

As for enlarging with Photoshop, there are settings apart from automatic that might take you further. Also there is Lightrooms "Super resolution" enhance which is still not great but better for my kind of use where you have a real photo and don't want it ending up looking fake.

Nice video, your enthusiasm is infectious!

  13. I'm new to your videos, but I just want to let you know that I really enjoy the few I've watched, so far. I can't wait to go through and watch the others! You give great information in an easy to comprehend way. Thank you so much for making the videos. 😁

  14. the deal breaker for me is that both programs are subcription based. I have a midjourney sub right now, probably wouldn't take on another one until I get rid of this one, unless I was working for a bigger company (in which case, at least with MJ, I'd be stuck paying a bigger fee anyway). It's awesome to see these tools but I don't see them actually changing anything in the culture (besides reducing the payout for artists) until competitive open source options appear. Thanks for sharing this info!

  15. Thanks so much! I was getting tired of finding AI upscalers with subscriptions attached. Topaz was on sale so I grabbed
it straight away to get some work done for Redbubble!
